BGDG X Grambling State

Grambling State University reached out to Brown Girls Do Gymnastics in 2020 through one of our long time mentors, Coach Apollonia Barrientos. We met with the current Athletic Director, The Doug Williams Center and other GSU Leaders. After our initial conversation, GSU was interested in hosting our Annual Conference to get a feel for gymnastics on their campus.

In 2021 - Our Inaugural Isla™ Invitational was held on the campus of Grambling State University with teams from Texas and New York competing for the title of the Isla™ Invitational Champion. Immediately following the Isla™ Invitational, was the the Inaugural Isla™ Exhibition. The Isla™ Exhibition featured 22 former and current gymnast from 8 collegiate gymnastics programs.

The outpouring of support was amazing! Since the 2021 Conference, we have remained in contact with Dr. Trayvon Scott about the movement. With his support and the support of the GramFam, we will hopefully bring gymnastics to the Tiger Campus in the coming years.

The need is clear and we are motivated by the opportunity we can provide for young gymnasts of color. With the right partners and sponsors, we are ready to bring the sport to life right here on our campus and build a platform for young women to advance their athletic and academic pursuits.
— Rick Gallot, President of Grambling State University
Brown Girls Do Gymnastics (Conference) is an outstanding event and promotes young girls with an opportunity. We encourage these young ladies to take advantage of the opportunity to get involved in a growing sport.
